Sant Vicent de Sa Cala

This is another of the villages of the municipality.

It has a reduced number of inhabitants with only 8 who registered in the census, and the remainder of the disseminated population numbers 289.

This village has a share of the coast with 2 hotels and an urbanization surrounded by the mountain and facing the coast. It is a tourist zone on a smaller scale than the others, with some 1000 places available for tourists, but of no less beauty.

An interesting place in this village is the “Cova des Cuieram” of Carthaginian origin, which at present is being tidied up. It was excavated in 1907 to a depth of some 200 metres. Amongst other items 600 terracota figures, a thousand figureheads and ceramic fragments were found. The most well known bell shaped figures are

feminine, and have diverse symbols sketched on them; in a few cases they have their faces covered by a fine layer of gold. As for the chronology of the temple, the experts think that the bed was used from the end of the 5th century until the 2nd century B.C.

It’s patron saint is Sant Vicente Ferrer and the saint’s day is celebrated on April 5th with the celebrations following the same pattern as the other villages.
